Abstract
Historically speaking non-alignment was never a concept that was exclusively applied to the policies of Third World states, even though its conceptual origins and the majority of adherents can be largely associated with that part of the world. In fact, socialist Yugoslavia had a formative influence on the character of non-alignment from the early 1950s and it played a very influential role in its gradual institutionalization into a fully-fledged movement throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
